Apart from a silly audience incident this is the best performance of the 4th I have heard. The musicians' composure was exemplary in the incident and resumed the quartet without the arch and chorale structure being tarnished. Many say that Vasks can be long winded but in fact no notes are wasted and concentration pays dividends when one gets into the world of the pure sound. Hearing SQ 4 makes the 'cello concerto easier to follow at one's first hearing of the large work.

No, it’s not the original Borodin Q, but the essence of their approach to ensemble playing, created by Dubinsky, stays intact. We still can recognize and appreciate Borodin Quartet ( is this a 3rd generation since 1945?)
